Now 'bitches'- being used in the most positive and endearing manner- UGNY's plucked out some of New York's hottest local artists in honor of this past International Women's Day. From visual to physical to virtual art, these 20 ladies scream, "I'm talented, I work hard, and I am THAT bitch. PeriodT."

1 - Amanda Kay Cook

A Brooklyn based writer, model and actor, Amanda's comedy writing focuses on telling femme and queer stories. Published with The Onion and UGNY Magazine (2021 New York), Amanda enjoys writing satire and comedic essays in addition to her film/ TV projects. She has gained select acting credits including: Buzzfeed’s Expensive Vs. Bargain Full-Coverage Concealer, a tour with Hudson Shakespeare Company's Coriolanus (Menenius) and EVA (Margo) at Manhattan Rep. Theater. As a founding member of Unit 14 Theater Company in Chicago, IL, Amanda has been featured in Grounded (Pilot), Red (Mark Rothko) and The Watson Intelligence (Eliza). Cook's work with Unit 14 has been promoted in the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune. Along with Amanda's association with Vogue Italia, GirlGaze, CuratedbyGIRLS, and Der Greif , she's acquired ties with New York theatre companies such as Pocket Universe (dir. 2 - Marie-Charlotte

Marie-Charlotte was born in New York City in 1995 and grew up in London and NYC. Most recently the Dutch-American artist spent months immersing herself in a series inspired by her happy place, Strawberry Fields in Central Park. The collection of works inspired John Lennon's creativity has since been turned into an Art and Music Installation which was featured in Timeout Magazine. She also enjoys painting invented figures dubbed “souls” which she channels into corporeality on canvas as well as scenes in the same universe which she calls “soulscapes.” Marie-Charlotte works with oils, acrylic, charcoal and found objects to create dynamic arrangements with energetic lines and visually arresting colors. She has exhibited in New York City and London, her influences include Remedios Varo, Wassily Kandinsky, René Magritte, Alexander Calder, Hilma af Klint and Francis Bacon, as well as contemporary artists: Cy Twombly, George Condo, and Jennifer Packer. 3 - Hal McMahon

Her work spans across a variety of mediums and techniques but is often drawn to the subtle abstraction of everyday life. Through Hal's creative practice, she seeks to explore themes of alternative realities, often with a touch of psychedelic or otherworldly imagery. Her artistic process and portfolio focuses just as much on traditional "fine art" techniques as it does digital design, throwing away with the preconceived notion that one must choose between the two. Hal served as the lead designer for the visual identity of Binghamton University's 2020 BFA Exhibition and was awarded the 2020 Martha Norcross Student Art Show Award for her book, 'Faceless Pranksters'. She is also an experienced freelance painter, creative content manager and logo/branding designer (who graciously designed UGNY's "UNDRGRND" sticker in 2021). Instagram @halsstudio.
4 - Anna Koblish

Anna Koblish grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She moved to New York at 18 to attend Parsons School of Design where she studied product design with a minor in fashion communication. During her time at Parson, her primary focus was always on color and image. Upon graduating, Koblish started her freelance photo career. Within a year of starting, she landed jobs with Playboy, Dr. Martens, Calvin Klein and Prada. Since then she has worked with musical talents like Souly Had, Lil Huddy, Wallice, Johnny Orlando, Izzy Camina and more. Anna's work is vibrant and nostalgic, her aesthetic is reminiscent of the

5 - HOLDN

Dark-pop artist, HOLDN, is on the rise with a gritty pop sound that sets her apart from the rest. An alternative rock veteran, HOLDN is no stranger to stepping onto the stage. Different, yet formulaic, she displays her rawest form through her music. She has previously stepped into the spotlight at festivals such as Vans Warped Tour & Skate and Surf Festival and onto stages across the country including Webster Hall, Starland Ballroom, Theater of Living Arts Philadelphia and many more. 6 - Marley Quinn /Azalea Suicide

Marley was born and raised on Long Island, New York. She’s known her entire life that she’s wanted to be a body piercer. Marley has been piercing for the last 11 years from shops in Nassau and Suffolk counties in Long Island and New York City. “When you do something you love, you’ll never have to work." says Marley, or Azalea when referring to her modeling career. When asked if she could ever see herself doing something else, she replies, “I’ve only ever wanted to pierce. You know when you get that feeling that you were destined for something? Piercing is that feeling for me.” In addition to being a full time body piercer, she is also an internationally published alternative model. Beginning her modeling days in tattoo magazines, she was recruited by Suicide Girls in 2013 where she became a member of the massive community of empowered alternative women, rife with tattoos and piercings. 7 - Sammi Garett

Sammi is often recognized as the pink-donned prominent member of the Brooklyn, NY-based Power-Funk band Turkuaz (2012-2021). As a 2009 graduate of Berklee College of Music, Sammi majored in vocal performance, graduating Cum Laude. She returned to her hometown of New York City, where she studied improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC. Simultaneously, Sammi began touring with Freekbass & The Bump Assembly. Sammi had long been writing tunes that would one day be the spark for a solo project, and it was just a matter of finding the right time and scenario to share it with the world. Her forthcoming EP, Sweet Tooth, will be released Summer 2022 on all streaming platforms. Her most recent single With You dropped this past Valentine's Day along with her featured artist profile for UGNY. 8 - Valeria Lima

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and raised in Orlando, Florida, Valeria Lima is an Ecuadorian-American writer, director and editor working towards building Latinx cinema in New York City. A recent film school graduate, Val was awarded the New York Women in Film & Television Emerging Female Filmmaker Award at 39th Annual Brooklyn College Film Festival. 9 - Mikaela Stenmo

Born in Sweden, raised in Belgium & a frequent attendee of European nightlife, Mikaela Stenmo’s sound is undeniably influenced by crying in the club. Juxtaposing sweetly sung, addictive pop melodies with production that showcases her roots in techno and deep house, Now residing in NYC, Stenmo delivers songs that tell the reality of numbing, loving and fumbling through your 20 somethings. 10 - Lauren Seeley

Lauren is an artist and a clothing and accessories designer with a background in interior design and a love of folk art from all around the world, particularly Mexico. They use their art in activism and support numerous causes including BLM, LGBTQ, cancer treatment funding and legal funding for people affected by ICE. In all aspects of their life they find ways to help marginalized groups, spread awareness and help others through their social media platforms. Lauren is a also visual artist and print designer from Portland, OR, who owns Ahh Sweet Death- Lauren's Brooklyn based business carries products focusing on the cute and macabre. Miette Hope is a Brooklyn, NY based singer-songwriter, producer. Her style can
best be identified by its poetically honest lyrics accompanied by spatially rhythmic grooves. Drenched in neo-R&B/ soul inflections, her songs melt into an embodied expression of her trials and triumphs. Hope's vocals drive her narratives collectively and precisely, pin-pointing emotional cliffs that are reminiscent of many of our life's indulgences. 12 - Coco Farquis

Originally from a small town in Ohio, Coco attended Miami University studying Interactive Media Studies and a minoring in Fashion. She graduated with her Bachelors degree in 2020. Upon graduating, Coco got signed with West Model management in St. Louis. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Kay Day is a pop-punk singer, comedian, and actress currently based out of New York City. She has been seen on numerous television shows and music videos throughout her career. Most recently, Day released her single 'RING POP' in February 2022. 14 - Mary Sheaffer

Mary Sheaffer is a Booklyn based artist and designer focusing on unusual canvases: clothing, fabric, instruments, even bodies. Mary left her hometown of Scranton, PA to study Textile Design at Philadelphia University. After college, she came to NYC to pursue a career in Home Textiles, designing fabric for interior decor. Outside of her day job, Mary continues to create, painting on any type of surface available and will basically paint on anything she can get her hands on. Mary currently thrives in New York City's underground scene as an artist who thinks beyond the limitations of canvas or paper. 15 - Kallie Takahashi

Kallie Takahashi is a final year student in the New Studio on Broadway at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She will graduate in the spring of 2022 with a BFA in Drama. Kallie grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest but now calls New York City home. Most recently you could have seen her in Broadway World's Next on Stage Dance Competition, College Top 30 and as Judy in A Rosie Holiday; a new musical with NYU Tisch's Department of Drama's, New Studio on Broadway. Born in Barcelona and raised in Brooklyn, Silvia is a visual artist, professional chef, and major foodie based out of New York City. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts then graduated from the Culinary Institute of America for Culinary Arts. In 2018, Silvia founded Yes Shef: A New York non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women in the food industry. Yes Shef focuses on a community of strong individuals with amazing ideas and creativity, encouraging them to build strong relationships and support each other in an inclusive, safe environment. Natasha Timm is an American painter currently based in Brooklyn, New York. Originally from California, she went to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco earning her BFA. She specializes in large oil paintings, is highly recognized for her figurative work, and is currently working on paintings and commission projects as an independent artist. INDY is a one woman-led independent brand based in Brooklyn, designing sunglasses inspired by the streets of New York. The chic, affordable frames are made with high-quality materials, come with full UV protection and are designed for all face shapes and seasons. INDY sunglasses have been worn by musicians such as Alicia Keys and the brand has been seen in British Vogue & Harpers Bazaar. Indie McFarlane launched INDY from her bedroom floor in hometown of Perth, Scotland in 2017.
